With offices conveniently located in Liverpool, our Power of Attorney solicitors are ideally placed to assist clients in wallasey and throughout the wider Merseyside area.
Increasing public awareness of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and strokes has highlighted the importance of planning ahead for potential loss of mental capacity.
If you are concerned about the possibility of reduced capacity—for yourself or a loved one—it may be time to consider making preparations. Establishing a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) ensures that your wishes are respected and that trusted individuals are legally authorised to act on your behalf if the need arises.
There are two main types of LPA:
- Property and Financial Affairs LPA: This allows your chosen Attorney to manage your financial matters, including bank accounts, investments, and property. Your Attorney is expected to keep you informed and involve you in decisions wherever possible.
-
Health and Welfare LPA: This enables your Attorney to make decisions about your medical treatment, daily care, and overall wellbeing if you are unable to do so yourself.
It is important not to delay. Putting an LPA in place sooner rather than later avoids unnecessary complications and costs. If mental capacity is already diminished, a Court of Protection application may be required.
